Winner's Egg

The Winners Egg was launched in the historic Jockey Room in Newmarket to a triumphal trumpet fanfare. Lord Derby was present at a champagne reception to witness the unveiling of the Egg, whose ’surprise’ is a model of a horse based on the famous Ouija Board, and on this occasion bearing Lord Derby’s colours. The event was attended by many of the famous within the racing world including Frankie Dettori, Lester Piggott and John McCririck.

Sarah Fabergé created the WINNERS EGG in celebration of the unique joy experienced by every winner and his horse, and in support of the welfare of racing’s people.

The WINNERS EGG is hand crafted using techniques perfected over hundreds of years. The Egg is mouth-blown in emerald-coloured fine lead crystal, and hand enamelled using 23-carat gold. The fluted pedestal is hand-etched in a theme of horseshoes, amid the decorative swags so strongly associated with the Fabergé family.

The Egg itself is richly decorated, to the lower half with stirrup motifs carved and high-fired in gold, and above with golden trellis-work and winners’ wreathes; the finial is a jockey’s cap modelled in gold and silver. Four clear double crystal panels allow the eye a glimpse of the delight, which lies within the Egg.

In the tradition of the Fabergé family, on opening the WINNERS EGG the surprise is revealed. The horse is led towards the winners’ enclosure by the proud stable-girl. All hand-crafted in 24-carat gold and sterling silver, the horse is ridden by the winning jockey who reaches to pat the horse’s neck in affection and esteem. The jockey, lass and rider bear all the accoutrements associated with their rôles, in miniature homage to the trappings and ceremony of the glorious moment of triumph.

The WINNERS EGG is available by private commission, in colours of choice. Proceeds from the Egg contribute to Racing Welfare who commissioned this creation from the St Petersburg Collection by Sarah Fabergé.
