Tribute Eggs
Sarah Fabergé has created four TRIBUTE EGGS to celebrate the life and work of her father Theo Fabergé the last grandson of Russian imperial Jeweller Carl Fabergé. The guilloché enamel eggs bear 8 diamonds and a further set of 4 diamonds, in token of Theo’s age of 84 when he passed away.
Sarah’s TURNERS’ EGG is made in tribute to Theo’s dedication to the sophisticated craft of turning, a skill which created exquisite objets d’art treasured by so many collectors. The Turners’ Egg stands on a base embellished with 24-ct gold and ornamentally turned on Theo’s own Holtzappfel lathe dating from 1860. The Egg itself is hand-turned in bubinga wood from renewable forests in central Asia. To the interior, the surprise: a further Egg turns independent of the first, crafted in African blackwood. The inner egg is adorned with four decorative discs, three patterns originated by Theo and one featuring the Russian imperial eagle of the Romanov dynasty. The finial is an exact reproduction of Theo’s own design, gold-plated and set with a cabochon ruby.

Theo Fabergé was born in the same year that Howard Carter uncovered the archaeological find of the 20th Century – the tomb of Tutankhamen. The EGYPTIAN EGG echoes Theo’s abiding fascination for Egypt and its culture. Fashioned in translucent black enamel on sterling silver, the Egg features a scarab – luck-giving amulet of the ancient Egyptians – fashioned in silver and gold and diamond-set. The finial supports eight diamond-set curtains. The base bears an ornamental-turning pattern. To the side of the Egg, lift two classical handles framing a mystic face inspired by a neo-Egyptian hardstone vase in the Hermitage; and the surprise is revealed – a miniature vermeil Sphinx, proud, watchful, eternal lies supine on a desert-floor of black velvet.

The TSAR NICHOLAS II EGG is created in sterling silver with 24-ct gold and guilloché enamelled in rich blue, the enamelling process exactly as beloved by Carl Fabergé and by Theo. It was from the Tsars’ village of Tsarkeyo Selo, visited by Theo in 1992 and treasured forever in his memory, that Nicholas II and his young family departed on their final tragic journey to Yekaterinburg. The finial of the Tsar Nicholas II Egg and the foot, are based on Theo’s original work. The upper shell supports the Romanov coat-of-arms. The surprise within, the last Tsar himself in greatcoat and officer’s cap reflectively grasping his field binoculars, modelled on an original wood-carving in the possession of Theo Fabergé.

The BALLET EGG is a moving tribute to the passion for ballet shared by Theo Fabergé with his daughter Sarah. A charming expression in pink enamel on sterling silver, the Egg bears a pair of silver-gilt swans to the upper half in recollection of Theo’s best-loved ballet ‘Swan Lake’ (the inspiration for his Encore Egg). The finial is modelled on Theo’s lathe-turning, and the foot on his ornamental turning. Open the Egg, and in the tradition of the Fabergé family you view the ‘surprise’. Posed on an engine-turned silver and golden platform, an exquisite hand-crafted miniature of the ballet dancer originally crafted by Gino Masero and presented as a gift to Theo Fabergé. The dancer stands en pointe, posing in an elegant port-de-bras. A timeless tribute to the ballerina’s great art, from the greatest family in the history of objets d’art.
