SARAH FABERGÉ SALUTES THE ‘TRAFALGAR’ BI-CENTENNIAL ON BOARD HMS VICTORY 13th October 2005 – one week before the bi-centennial day of the Battle of Trafalgar - Sarah Fabergé was on board HMS Victory for a celebratory dinner with supporters of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution and with collectors who have acquired Theo Fabergé’s TRAFALGAR EGG at auction. This splendid event, taking in the cabin adjoining Lord Nelson’s own quarters, is a fitting climax to England ’s celebration of victory and freedom. The RNLI’s City of London branch commissioned Theo and Sarah to celebrate the bi-centenary of Nelson’s victory at the Battle of Trafalgar, in a Limited Edition objet d’art of 50 for the world market. Collectors’ purchases provide funds for a new Tamar class lifeboat City of London III for Sennen Cove in Cornwall .
The guilloche enamel and sterling silver Egg, in rich cobalt blue, is adorned with motifs from Auguste Mayer’s painting ‘Redoubtable at Trafalgar’ featuring the vessel from which Lord Nelson received his fatal shot. To the reverse, the Naval Gold Medal with which Nelson alone was awarded three times. The surprise: the bust of Nelson himself, modelled on the Flaxman sculpture and wearing the hat and coat he wore at Trafalgar, all presented in gold and silver.
