Order of St John Egg
Sarah Fabergé great-granddaughter of Russian Imperial Jeweller Carl Fabergé created the VENERABLE ORDER OF ST JOHN EGG in celebration of the 125th anniversary of the Jerusalem Hospital.
Four crystal obelisks positioned at the corners of the objet d’art represent the corners of the world; and are joined together by four chains symbolising the unity of the Priories throughout the world. Amidst these stands the Egg created in white guilloché enamel on sterling silver. The finial surmounting the Egg is Queen Elizabeth II’s crown as used by the Order of St John in their livery hand-crafted in precious metal. To the front of the plinth supporting the Egg the motto of the order : PRO FIDE PRO UTILITATE HOMINUM hand engraved and supported by Fabergé swags. Two sapphire crystal windows are let into the silver Egg surrounded by a Fabergé wreath and allowing you to gain a glimpse of the surprise within. Flanking the window the lines of longitude and latitude are etched and picked out with 24-carat gold.
Lift the Egg and in the tradition of the Fabergé family you view the ‘surprise’. Posed on a silver and golden platform the Cross of the Order symbol of the Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem in sterling silver and 24 carat gold hand-enamelled in white the enamelling process exactly as beloved by Carl Fabergé. This miniature cross can be lifted from its platform and exhibited separately.
Sarah Fabergé’s ORDER OF ST JOHN Egg invokes the excellence of tradition and taste over the centuries and the height of artistic talent. A proportion of the proceeds of sales on Sarah Fabergé’s ORDER OF ST JOHN will go towards the Order’s many projects.
